Tizon Apartments, in San Diego’s Rancho Bernardo neighborhood, is a 178-unit affordable senior housing community. The project involved the conversion of a vacant hotel into affordable housing for seniors aged 62 and older.

The renovation focused on integrating kitchenettes into each unit and updating all bathrooms to have accessible features for the senior residents. Existing communal spaces were reconfigured to enhance resident amenities. The pool and new community garden provide additional opportunities for the residents to gather and interact.

The project was funded through a combination of state and local funding sources including the San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) and a HUD 221(d)(4) multifamily housing loan.
